Huntly Kindergarten is a vibrant and important part of the Huntly community, a place where all children and their families can find a place to belong. Children come to kindergarten with a wealth of knowledge and experiences, and should be treated with respect and dignity. Respectful relationships between children, their families and educators are at the core of who we are at Huntly Kindergarten and what we practice. We welcome and embrace families from all backgrounds and abilities.
Families and carers are a child’s first and most important influence. We work in partnership with families to devise goals and a program that best suits the interests and developmental needs of each child. The educators of Huntly Kindergarten use their knowledge to enhance and develop each child’s learning. Family members and care givers are always welcome to be involved in our programs.
Children are capable and competent, able to construct knowledge with each other and educators. Children learn best though play and social interaction; through a learning environment which supports investigation and inquiry, originating from the interests of the child. We strive to create an environment where children are free to be themselves, to play without being rushed, to interact with both adults and children, where they can be challenged physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively. We understand the benefits of learning through the arts, with all forms of creative expression being a key part of our program.
Sustainable practices are learnt best through modelling. We value the semi-rural natural environment of Huntly and seek to nurture habits of sustainability in the children in order to preserve our natural resources for future generations.
Huntly Kindergarten aims to work with local schools to assist with a child’s transition to primary school.
Our educators have provided some answers to some 'frequently asked questions' to assist you in developing a better understanding of the kindergarten.
Our Bush Kinder site is the Old Huntly Pound situated on the corner of Greene and Gungurru Streets, Huntly, approximately 50m from the Kindergarten. It is a valuable 0.8ha area of remnant bushland located in the middle of Huntly.
We attend Bush Kinder during Terms 2, 3 and 4 for a three hour session each Wednesday. Our Whirrakee group attends from 8:30am-11:30am and our Rosella group attends from 12:30pm – 3:30pm. On this day parents park at the Kindergarten, dress their child in wet weather clothing (provided by the kinder) if necessary and proceed to the Bush Kinder site where the attendance book is located.
We are very excited to be able to offer the Bush Kinder program to all children in their Kindergarten year at Huntly. We are convinced that as we provide these opportunities, the children will connect, discover and wonder in our natural environment. This will be the beginning of a life-long joy and appreciation for nature where they can learn, enjoy and feel they belong. Bush Kinder strongly supports and enhances the philosophy of Huntly Kindergarten and offers a unique educational program of unstructured, uninterrupted nature play.
Families are invited and encouraged to participate in our bush kinder program and provide feedback and input into the program at any time.
