Our Philosophy

The focus of the Neangar Pre-school Program is the CHILD. The program, in addition to other decisions made at the service, is planned, implemented and evaluated around the child’s needs, interests and stage of development. Early childhood educators observe and assess each child and plan to suit the abilities and interests of individuals and groups of children. The program aims to develop the whole child, his/her intellectual, social, emotional, physical and creative self.
Activities at the Pre-school are based on “play”, which is the most important way children learn. Play is the essential part of any Pre-school program. Through play, children can explore, experiment, create, communicate, solve problems, think and ultimately discover for themselves. The environment is planned and organized to encourage children to play and learn as they experience; encouraging children to become self-motivated and competent learners.
Children learn through planned and spontaneous activities, which are child initiated or teacher initiated and based upon the Victorian Early Years Learning & Development Framework learning outcomes – Identity, Community, Wellbeing, Learning and Communication. Children have the opportunity to freely experience and explore a variety of materials, equipment and activities, and this may occur, individually, in small groups, one-to one with an adult or in a large group, self directed or adult directed.
The family plays a primary role in the child’s development and education, and parents are encouraged to be involved in the Pre-school in many different ways.
