Our Philosophy

OUR PLACE – Swan Hill South Kindergarten was built and opened in 1970 and has been operating as a Kindergarten for 3, 4 and 5 year old children since then.
OUR BELIEFS –
• Belonging – We encourage children to learn by doing things by themselves with the support of educators.
• Being – We concentrate on the here and now, children knowing themselves, building and maintaining relationships with others, meeting challenges in everyday life.
• Becoming – Children are beginning to learn about the community around them from adults, children and families, and with visits to the Kinder by ambulance, police, local primary school staff, and visits to the local fire station and library.
OUR COMMITMENTS – As Early Childhood Educators we will work in partnerships with families and specialist professionals. We offer a welcoming environment where ALL families are respected and encouraged to be part of our Kindergarten community and work collaboratively together to best plan and program for individual and groups of children. We expect that children will achieve educational success, building on the strengths of each individual child. We will keep the lines of communication open.
OUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS –
• Children and families feel safe, secure and supported. They develop their emerging autonomy, interdependence, resilience and sense of agency. For each child to develop and/or enhance a positive self-esteem and a caring attitude towards others (both children and adults).
• Children and families develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities, in particular our Kinder community; and a respect for diversity; are empowered to make choices and participate with others to solve problems.
• Children and families will have sustainability embedded in daily routines and practices – using compost/recycling/rubbish bins at morning tea and lunch, having rain water in the sandpit, planting and maintaining a vegetable patch, looking after plants in our garden, encouraging families to recycle boxes and other materials for use at Kinder, establishing a worm farm and maintaining compost bin.
• For the children to develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity. To also develop a range of skills and processes such as enquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
